To be honest, I'm not a science person at all. In the past, there haven't been any units or activities in science class that even remotely interested me. On top of a lack of interest, I was never very good at science, especially a class that is entirely conceptual, like biology. But when I learned that chemistry was more math-based than bio, I was excited. Math has always been something that came relatively easily to me, and I was eager to see how math could be applied to science.
I think the fact that chemistry combines so much mathematics is a motivational factor for me because I find it more interesting and less challenging. I'm also motivated because chemistry has such an impact on everday life, and I think that the lessons learned in this class will benefit me in the future.
While I'd like to say that grades aren't a motivational factor, they definitely are. I know that I have to maintain my GPA in order to get into a good college, so this also motivates me to do well in chemistry.

Kate, I find that you're response is extremely offensive against all those who favor everything that you denouced. I would greatly encourage everyone else who reads this to petition against her terrible thinking.
I agree that grades are definitely a motivator even though we sometimes don't want them to be. Also, the fact that Chemistry is math based where Bio was not definitely makes a difference to some of us. You made some very good points in your post that I agree with.
I like chemistry better than biology too because it is more math based! Also, I agree that getting good grades to get into a good college is one thing that motivates me to do well and try in chemistry.
I agree with you in many different ways. Biology has never caught my interest. But chemistry has been great so far. I think there's more math concepts in chemistry that I understand better.
that's really cool that you are into math, i wish that i was. myself, i really enjoyed bio last year. it sounds like you have quite a bit of motivation for chemistry.
as for your last comment, i agree 100% on the factor of grades. it is constantly in the back of my mind when i am in class.
I know what you are getting into, but for me I might like Biology more just because I am good at memorizing. I find both chemistry and biology to be fun and hard at the same time. However, everyone will be good at something and bad at others.
